Just like any other electric vehicle, the new Audi e tron SUV will need a home charging kit. Amazon will be supplying and installing the new Audi EV chargers which will cost about $1,000 to hook up.

Several other manufacturers including Audi with their new e-tron SUV have begun to catch up to Tesla, especially since electric cars will be the new vehicles of the future. Tesla’s electric vehicles are ahead of the curve, and competitors know that if they want to stay competitive they need to do everything they can to stay fresh and relevant in the electric car industry.

According to a report from Reuters, the e-tron is a midsize SUV that will be released in the middle of 2019. The cost will be around $75,795 to start before a $7,500 tax credit. The e-tron can be reserved and fully-configured right now with a refundable $1,000 payment. While there are no range estimates as of yet, the Audi e tron battery is 95 kWh compared to Tesla’s battery in their Model X 100D which is 100 kWh and can travel 295 miles in one charge.

Audi, of course, is attempting to mix things up with their e-tron. It will be an Audi-made vehicle, but for those who want ev chargers, Audi will team up with Amazon to install and supply them. It will roughly cost $1,000 to have an Audi ev charger put in. Tesla, on the other hand, charges $500 and will set up your installation.

The Amazon Home Services division will handle all the home charging installations. This division also offers home theater installations, pressure washing, home deep cleaning, and other commercial and business maintenance services and commercial installations.

Amazon will deliver the ev charger to the owner’s home and set up an appointment for an electrician to hook it up for you. Depending on your home’s electrical system and how much work may be required to modify it so that your charger will be supported, there will be some variation in the price of installation.

There is one advantage Tesla still has over Audi and other competitors – an increasing number of Supercharger charging stations. While Audi is mainly relying on home charging to recharge their vehicles, Volkswagen’s Electrify America division intends to install public charging stations next year. At some point, Audi will need to consider public charging stations for their vehicles as well.
