e-tron Charging and Range

What can I do to help prepare my home for electric vehicle charging? Each Audi e-tron® will come standard with a charging capsule capable of up to 9.6 kW charging. You can power the charging capsule by plugging into a standard 120 volt household outlet or, if home wiring permits, a 240 volt outlet that allows for Level 2 charging.

What is the anticipated charging time for the e-tron®?

The e-tron® can be fully recharged at home under 10 hours with a Level 2 charger depending on the existing charge level of the vehicle. Furthermore, the e-tron® is designed to support 150 kW high-speed commercial chargers that can offer up to 80% recharge in about 30 minutes.

Will the e-tron® come with a charger?

Yes, the e-tron® will come standard with a dual-voltage home charger. This charger will include plugs that can utilize both a standard Level 1 120V household outlet (1.2 kW) as well as a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet (9.6 kW). Additional charging plug types will be available through Audi Aftersales.

What happens to the battery in the event of a collision?

The battery was built within a protective honeycomb structure. The cooling system is bonded below the battery structure and helps prevent shorts and thermal events by helping to keep the coolant fluids separate from the batteries in the event of a collision.

Where will the e-tron® be manufactured?

The Audi e-tron® will be manufactured in the significantly updated Audi Brussels facility. The facility has been designed to use renewable energy and bio gas to offset natural gas and fuel used during heating and production. The goal is not only to manufacture a vehicle with no tailpipe emissions, but also manufacture it in a facility that is designed to be more sustainable.

How far can I go on one charge?

The e-tron® is being designed to offer long-range capability, making long distance trips possible on a single charge. The official range of the vehicle will be determined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and will be released at a later date closer to market availability. Actual mileage and range will vary and depend on several factors including driving and charging habits, weather, and temperature, battery age and vehicle condition. The CARB (California Air Resources Board) indicated that the Audi e-tron quattro will travel 277.55 miles on a single charge. See full details here.
